Its been some time since my last blog. After an effort to submit my last assignment, and family commitments to deal with, I haven't had too much time to write, especially late at night with work the following day. However, I have managed a few shooting sessions.
I changed my approach, and rather than shooting each sub-section in turn and blogging immediately after, I took a note of the various exercises and had these in mind when going out.
The other key difference is that the shots in this blog were all shot on film. Its been refreshing, shooting and not knowing what I'd get until after. Its slowed me down somewhat and helped me to concentrate, which has ultimately resulted in a more focused and hopefully creative approach to the course. I've also enjoyed the benefit of older cameras with much larger viewfinders than I've become accustomed to in digital photography. I think its the combination of slowing down and being able to compose shots more easily which has resulted in a quite different style.
All in all, this foray into film has been very enjoyable and I'll be doing more in the future.
So here goes....
Points in the Frame - Multiple Points
Horizontal and Vertical lines
Diagonals
Curves
Shapes

Of course there's more to do to complete these exercises, but this has been an enjoyable start and hopefuly forms a solid base on which to develop.
I think shooting film, and the more considered approach which it encourages, has resulted in stronger compositions which largely negate any concerns that the images may be poor in terms of the technical attributes, eg. sharpness, definition etc...
Next up, more work on shapes and the use of implied lines in compositions.
